Traverse is now out, give it a play!

This isn't our biggest launch by any means, but it's definitely of great quality, and will put your mind to the test. We have much greater projects in the works, some that many people have been waiting a long time for. Anyway, enjoy Traverse for what it is, we'll be back with more soon, so keep an eye out.

"After over a year of working together, Andrew and myself are finally united. Andrew has just moved form Illinois to Vermont to officially get things going for Epic Shadow Entertainment. We've just finished setting up our first official office in the basement of my house, and will be moving up as we grow. We've been through a lot in the last year, had some ups and downs, even a false move at one point, but it's finally here, and it's awesome."

That's the word on the street at least, which is pretty accurate seeing as Andrew is just a few feet from me right now. The move has definitely been a huge change in our lives, both in and out of our career related activities. Andrew has upgraded his living environment, I have a significantly better work area, we've both been setting goals for the near future that are sure to expand both of our lives in great ways, it's been good. If you'd like to see some pictures and read a bit more about the move, check out the post over at Alt Tab, our development blog.

I recently wrote a very in depth article on where one can find music for games. It's a very nice list of sources ranging from free sources such as the Newgrounds Audio Portal, to paid sources such as Somatones and other larger companies. If you're a flash game designer, or simply interested in various music sources on the net, definitely check it out.

In addition, I have a few games in the works right now. Two of them are on hold due to how long they'll take to complete, but another is in fast progress and I'm hoping to get it out by Halloween, we'll see how that goes.

Keep an eye out for the game later this month, and drop me a comment either here on the flash games blog pertaining to the music article, peace out,

-Porter

Mushroom Madness, an incredibly awesome action oriented defense game has just gone live as of typing this. Play it now while it's fresh on the net, it's great stuff. Also, read my Mushroom Madness Review if you would rather get an idea of the game beforehand.

In other news PrincePorter.com is now hosting 275 quality games, I've spent a lot of time building up the collection, be sure to pay it a visit.

In development news, EpicShadow (We brought you games such as Gravibounce and Tower of Greed, check them out here on newgrounds), has just begun work on a new game that is sure to please fans of creativity, RPG's, platformers, and more, you can track development of it at my flash games blog as we make progress, check back in weeks to come.

That's all for now, I'll update you all in the weeks to come, happy madness day!

Summer vacation is at an end, or coming to an end for all you students out there. This summer has been a crazy one for me, lots of swimming, lots of life changing activities, and so on. Chances are if you're reading this, you either came to newgrounds to watch some awesome animations or play some games. If you have any troubles viewing the site at school (which many of you will) I suggest you head over to my site princeporter.com to play some Quality Games, for the time being the site shouldn't be blocked at any schools so you'll be good to go.

I've put a lot of work into the site this summer, making navigation much easier, game images clickable, new advertisements so it's not the same crap you see on every other site, and tons more. The site now has over 260 quality games which is personally the best collection I've seen on the net so far. Many other sites have tried hand picking, but in my opinion miss some great titles, and let in some others that just aren't that great. I believe I've got the balance just right, you can be the judge though.

As far as games go, I will be getting back into game design now that the move is over. I have a few ideas and a few projects in the works, so you'll just have to give me a couple months to get things out. Tower of Greed may see a sequel in the next few months, but for now we've got some other stuff to get done. If you head over to princeporter, be sure to drop me a comment here about what you think; and remember, if your school blocks the awesomeness that is newgrounds, head on over to pay me a visit.

So I figured I'd drop an update here for anyone who happens to stumble upon my page.

First off, Tower of Greed was a rather large success. The sponsorship money was great and it really turned out nearly exactly as I imagined it would. As always it was a learning experience and future games of the genre will do better with that new found knowledge. the game itself was front paged here on newgrounds for awhile which was great. Unfortunately we weren't able to put in medals to the game due to us programming in AS3 and being very strict with OOP which wouldn't allow us to implement the newgrounds API. Next time I suppose.

Next, my flash arcade site is doing amazing lately, it's grown to nearly 250 hand selected games and has a new look that I'm rather pleased with. The site also has a flash games blog where I write about the flash industry, my projects, tips and tricks to becoming a flash game designer, and the occasional game review.

I'm currently in a learning stage again forcing myself to learn even more AS3 and OOP, but it's coming along nicely and hopefully things continue to go great as they are now.

Gravibounce

Daily 2nd!
Front Paged!

Gravibounce was released today and is doing very well. The score is awesome, the reviews are great, I'm happy with it. For anyone interested, there will be a sequel to this eventually featuring a level editor, user made levels and more.

Tower of Greed

Production on Tower of Greed (ToG from now on) has begun and is going very well. We have a game plan mapped out, basic engine built and are now doing level designs and refining to the engine. I have really high hopes for this one and I think it will appeal to many different types of gamers, action, RPG, classic and casual. I don't want to release any info on it's features yet as it's still early, but it's sure to be a hit and fetch a pretty penny. Keep an eye out for news, if enough people ask I make leak a bit of info.

New Site

So I finally got around to starting a flash portal of my own. It's PrincePorter.com if you feel the desire to go check it out, which you totally should. I have a ton of plans to make it stand out from the thousands of portals, first off being that I hand pick every game and don't accept garbage by any means. I've even left some of my own games out that I don't felt met my level of appreciation as a gamer. Anyway, I have a ton of plans to change it in the coming months, bookmark it, register, or just check it out once, your call. Either way I'm glad to have the site running, and I hope to eventually get it up to a level in which it's a decent portal, we'll see.

AS3 and OOP

So lately I've been doing a lot of research on AS3 and OOP, it's coming along rather nicely as far as the logic goes and me understanding the concepts. I realized that I kept saying AS3 is new, and that I was fine with what I knew, but I've been spending a lot of time around some real professionals and they made me realize that I was rather limited to what I can do due to my lack of knowledge in coding. I can do a ton with what I do know, but if I knew more my capabilities would increase a ton. All in all, I've been reading up on OOP, converting old code to AS3 and really gaining a ton of knowledge in AS3 and OOP to get myself up with the times. I want to be able to use anything available to me, not look at a list and pick out what I understand.

Flash Game License

For those of you unfamiliar with this site that are developers yourself, do yourself a huge favor and check it out. the community there, including the admins are great people. You will find more feedback and constructive criticism then anywhere else on the net for your flash games from my experience so far. I've also managed to get myself to the highest community leveled member on the entire site, that's kind of cool I guess. There's a lot more to the site, such as it's main purpose of buying and selling flash games, but I'll leave that stuff up to you to find out if your interested. Check it out at flashGameLicense.com

So Dominus Void did rather well, it was .02 from getting a daily 5th award, ya I checked because I wanted one that badly hehe. Anyway, the reviews are incredibly good, and those alone make up for the lack of award, and almost got me a review crew pick actually. It finished with a 3.73 which on some days would be a daily first, however it was a rough day and I had to up against Tom himelf with his release of Bytesize , that's right Tom, you ruined my daily 5th opportunity, I don't know how long it'll take for me to get over this, but for now, I think we just need some space :P I'm still hoping for front page as the feedback on Dominus Void was amazing, some saying it should be on front page, others calling it the best puzzle game they have ever played, I guess we'll just have to see if it get's noticed, if not, I'll just have people help get it into the puzzle games collection and hope it gets a little more attention from there.

game is 99% complete and is now being looked at by sponsors.

So my newest game and first solo project in a few years is nearly complete. It's an action/puzzle game and I'm very satisfied with the way it's coming along. I've taken every fault I've ever encountered in other projects and made sure to address them this time around, that means,

-no/nearly no lag for all users

-very user friendly, explains everything in game.

-semi lengthy, unlockables, high score board.

-built for casual gaming, as well as hard core gamers

Overall I'm proud of it, and I have very high expectations for it with the public, I believe it will be a hit. This time around it's a solo project as well, so I'll be taking all the cash for myself, although working with an artist such as millz is always awesome, and I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't just rather code then do both, I'll surely enjoy the extra cash. Another neat feature of this game is that ALL animation is done with code rather then frames. I used a variety of self made techniques to get the effects I was looking for and they came out great. Anyway, Keep an eye out for the game in the next 2 weeks, it's going to be a great new addition to the puzzle games collection as well as my portfolio of work.
