Matt-Porter
I'm a flash game developer and programmer. My inspiration for game design generally comes from the NES/SNES days, but I've touched basically all there is and enjoy anything that's fun. I'm also the owner of Gemfruit Studios.

I'm Back

Posted by Matt-Porter - January 7th, 2012

Hey Newgrounds, it's me, Porter. Most you of probably know me, but don't know that you know me, so here's a quick catch up on who I am.

My name is Matt Porter, but I go by Porter. I was once a partner with Epic Shadow Entertainment, we released Tower of Greed, Pixel Purge, and a few other Newgrounds cult classics / hits. Pixel Purge was the #1 submission on Newgrounds for about a week when it was released, and it still hovers around the top 100 submission of all time today. As all good things do, my partnership at Epic Shadow ended, and I moved on. Where did I move on to, to my own new company, Gemfruit. If you'd like to know more about Gemfruit, read about it here.

As far as game development goes, there will definitely be a Tower of Greed and Pixel Purge 2, I just can't promise you when. I can tell you this though, when they're released, they'll be far better than the original games, and a load of fun, because I refuse to make them anything less of what the fans of the game have asked for in the last year or two. I'm currently working on a new game right now, that's not a sequel to either of those, but it's sure to be another hit that Newgrounds and the rest of the online gaming community will love. I can't say much more now, but follow my posts here, and my blog if you want to know more, I'll be updating weekly / bi-weekly. The Gemfruit branding is where I plan on really getting serious with my work as a game developer, which has only just begun, and I'm really excited for what I can bring to the world this year.

I've been a hobbyist musician for some time now, but I've never submitted anything to the Audio Portal. I've mostly done this for the same reason I don't release games that often, I'm a super perfectionist. I've lately convinced myself that watching personal growth is an awesome thing, and that it's okay to share works that aren't absolutely perfect, as long as you make them perfect eventually. With that said, I've got a small collection of music I've recorded that I'll be uploading. None of it is amazing, but I worked hard on it, and think it's definitely worth sharing. As said, all songs are rough, so take it for what it is.

I'd like to take this time to personally thank all of Newgrounds, and especially Tom Fulp, as Newgrounds is where I started what has now become my life, game development. I was a young novice animator growing up (using flash 4!), I watched animations on here since middle school, and now I submit games that millions of people play, all because of this site. So in all honesty, I want to thank you personally for reading this, and for being a part of the community that got me started.

Lastly, I'm quite active on my blog, FlashGameLicense, and Twitter, so I'll try to reference worthwhile activities on those sites here, or at least link to them. I'm really looking forward to what this year brings, and I'll be sure to share whatever is worth sharing with you all.

excited for Tower of Greed 2 :)

also I see you all the time on the FGL forums

I'm quite active on FGL, it's my second home :)

I found you because of your audio submissions, ironically, and I like your work! You're a damn good pianist. Thanks for sharing your songs.

Hey, thanks a lot! I'm definitely not a crazy skilled musician like a lot of people on here, but I can tell I have it in me, and I just haven't focused on those skills yet. As I said, it's just always been a hobby, I've played since I was little, always by ear, I can hardly even read music (definitely not fast enough to play it doing so). Hopefully over the next year or two I can embrace it a bit more and get better, we'll see how it goes. Thanks for the support and kind words :)
