Not bad,

The game isn't bad, and the first in the series is a huge hit on my site (one of the top played games). This one however needed some upgrades, and some minor issues really hurt it.

Here's what you did wrong, and can still fix VERY easily. This is from one game developer to another, so understand it's just helpful advice.

First, you have keyboard controls, support WASD, it'll really add to your rankings, trust me.

Second, allow pressing space, or enter, to proceed to the next level. It's a horrible idea to force the player to switch between keyboard and mouse, especially for something as simple as just starting the next level. It's annoying, and although it doesn't seem so bad, you're losing score from various users who found that annoying and dropped a low vote.

Lastly, although the 3 second count down is nice, I would have sped it up a tiny bit, or gotten rid of it entirely. Allowing the player to just press a key when they're ready, the sluggish speeds due to waiting for that also annoy your players, again, it all adds up.

As you can see, the three above things hurt you in the end, especially if you find players annoyed by more than one of them, they'll likely drop you a low vote, rather than the 3 or higher this game deserves.

Overall, it's a nice addition to the first game, and it's not bad, you should just really consider cleaning up those minor issues, it shouldn't take you more than an hour to fix it up and re-submit this. As for the level editor, great addition, I know some don't like the idea of it only being on your site, but hey, you need to make some money too, nice move as far as I'm concerned. Let me know if you fix those things up, I promise you it'll help your ratings, as well as earnings in the end. Good work, keep it up.

Thanks for taking the time to respond and make suggestions, I have implemented all of the changes you recommended.

Good stuff

Nice improvement upon the first. It's basically the same, nothing really amazing, but the addition of the level editor definitely grants this rights as an acceptable sequel, good work.

Sweet

I just ran into the first one when looking for games to add to my site. Glad to see a sequel that looks to be better than the first. Love the textures, love the solid physics and overall it's a great presentation and will be added to my site as soon as it's available. Now I just have to redesign so I can support large width games :)

Awesome stuff

As I've told you before, that is one awesome game. I love the fact that you can pimp your dog out, that's right, I'm still gonna call it a dog, a sheep dog if we must settle in the middle. Anyway, the music is great, it really brings this game to life for me so you can rest assured the money spent on the soundtrack did not go to waste. The graphics are of very high quality and merge with the musics feel very well. The game mechanics feel as solid as they possibly could for this game and I like them. The bling shop, well that's just genius and opens this game up to a much larger audience so good job there. I wish I had more time to fully pimp my sheep dog out, but for now he'll have to settle with just a sweet bling and some shades. Good stuff, keep it up.

Pretty cool game

The game itself was very well presented and I knew right off it was of quality. The graphics were great and the sounds worked well. The main menu reminded me of a metroid prime feel which go you bonus points somewhere in my mind as well. The game mechanics were simple to understand, DID require skill (although luck could pass you if you feel like wasting all day) and it was fun for what it was. My biggest compliment was the random text between levels, there was some funny stuff in there. Overall, good job, peace out,

Sweet

Finally it came out, I was playing this game forever back on FGL, I had top score for awhile. Anyway, I love the game, you fixed up the user interface and I love the song selection. You also managed to get some good controls with 7 keys, that's hard to do. Well, games awesome, good luck with daily awards and all that jazz.

Hey Matt Porter! I'm glad you liked this game and it's a pleasure to see you playing it on Newgrounds!

Awesome

Great game, I never played the first but I'll take your word for it that this version was improved upon greatly. I love the gameplay, the idea itself is genius, and it works which is the best part. It's not to over the top, but it's definitely original. I've enjoyed playing it throughout it's wonderful growth and am now proud to see it out into the world.

you know it

Nice game Chris, ende up pretty well polished and you fixed the right click menu problem I forgot to tell you about. It's fun stuff, hopefully the public agrees with me :)

Plumpman responds:

Yup, I read all your feedback on FGL and tried to fix most of the problems.
Chris and I are real happy with it now.

Awesome game

I played some levels, cheated others, but overall I was very impressed with what you did. Your one of the first people I've seen take the mouse avoider genre and actually come out with somthing decent. Your level ideas were original, graphics were decent most of the time and the gameplay although agrivating at times was fun. I enjoyed just cheating just to see the level layouts you had, probably because I'm a game designer myself. Overall, you've done a good job with a genre I usually have no interest in, kudos.

Thank you for ur review

Not bad at all

I'm amazed that you pulled out an original concept in these days, that's a rare site. The game itself was fun, had a decent learning curve (a bit steep but that's what I like, it's not for all) and overall it was a well presented game. I'll probably get first place a bit later when I feel the need to show off, but for now I'll go work on my new game(s) so that I can have something for you to review by me. Sweet game, peace out.

Thanks!

I'm a flash game developer and programmer. My inspiration for game design generally comes from the NES/SNES days, but I've touched basically all there is and enjoy anything that's fun. I'm also the owner of Gemfruit Studios.
