"Best Megaman Remix I've heard"
Just a few weeks ago I was searching Newgrounds for the main theme of MMBN, couldn't find a really good version. There was an okay one, but nothing that really stood out. As soon I heard the intro to this, I knew I had found that version. To my surprise, I saw the song was six minutes long,a nd I had even more great music on the way. This definitely made me want to pick up my DS and play some MMBN, such awesome games.
As for the music, very upbeat, very organized, I love it. The synth used is excellent sounding. The song as a whole feels very powerful, it doesn't stagger at all, it just keeps pumping. You also have a lot of background stuff going on, I can hear it a bit with speakers, I'm sure it's more apparent with headphones, either way, it adds.
Overall, excellent piece of music. I really love how nostalgic this piece is, those games relaly did have great music. You've definitely done the MMBN series justice, by far the best remix on Newgrounds, and the net from what I've found.

Wow, thanks a bunch! I'm really glad to know how much you like it; it definitely makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. ^^
It's people like you that I make my music for, as well as myself. My target audience has always been people who are the hardcore VG music fans of the net, and I'm jazzed to know I gave you something you really enjoy. Thanks again for your support, and hopefully I'll see you around in the future!

You have a bigger fan base on your ambient tracks than you know. I'm the author of Dominus Void (look it up on this site) and I love your music. I plan on using Sweet Ride int he sequel to the game I'm working on, I love that song. All of your music stands out to me because it has so much depth. You don't just have a melody and some percussion going with it, you have tons of layers and so much background going on that it really builds character to your music. You've definitely got skill with ambient, don't give up on it. I also love the sounds you use, they're an excellent choice together.

"You're a bad influence on me."
Every time I think I've got my life situation and am ready to work on my website and programming/designing flash games, you step in with a song that makes me want to go turn my X-50 on and make some music. I really don't play enough, at all. I strongly feel that part of me is very musical, but I'm just distracted by having another strong passion in life that I don't ever get around to unleashing it, kinda frustrating now that I think about it. Anyway, I blame you for me becoming a great musician if that day ever comes, you influence me to play more than anyone else I know.
As for the song, I've never played Xenogears through unfortunately, I have however started the game about a month ago, I saved at the first save point and haven't played any further yet however. Had saying that, I have heard this song due to starting the game, so I can actually know what the original sounds like. I feel that yours is a lot stronger than the original, almost as if this was the PS3 remake of the game and this track was in it. It feels more modern, more clear, more powerful, you know what I mean. Great instrument choice, I love the wind chime or whatever in the background that goes up an octave really quick, not sure which instrument that is, but I'm sure you know what I mean. This is definitely true to the original, and definitely a great remix since you brought it back so strong, great job. I promise I'll play Xenogears eventually, putting in good word for it in a response could quicken the pace, I was thinking of playing FFIX soon since that's the only one in the series I've never completed (stopped on first disk, no idea why).
On a complete side note, I was telling my girlfriend I got a PM from you with a new song, and showed her a bit of your old work. In showing her how diverse you are, I brought up the good old classic Powerline from the Goofy Movie. Thanks to you we'll be watching that tonight, funny how you can influence someone's life without even trying eh? Keep it up, I expect something new or remastered within a month, get to it.
Author's Response:
Already working on new stuff as we speak - who knows - maybe I'll start pumping them out like I used to :p
and wah wah now go be influenced and be epic.
I know what you mean though - I have so many side projects on the go that sometiems it just feels like I never get ANYTHNIG done - I am a chronicaller for the dragonlance lexicon, I am working on a flash game with evil-dog - I need to work on so many art projects, and then there is my music.. oh and any web sites people throw my way to do.. So at the moment I am kind of ignoring all other things and focusing on individual things at once.. so things are slowly gettign done :)
and lol powerline - thats going way back :p
funnily enuff I only ever played the demo - but I liked t so much that I remade 2 songs from this - this song and dark omen - which I did a few years ago :P
and interesting.. a ps3 remake of it.. also that instrument are chimes - strummed upwards :)
thanks for the review matt!

I JUST finished playing the FFIV remake on the DS about a week ago, so this song is very fresh in my mind. As always, I love how much you have going on, that's something other artists fail at. You have the main melody, you have background percussion, a bit of ambiance, and more, it just keeps going. The longer you listen to your music, the more layers you find hidden in the background, toss on some headphones and there's even more, it's great.
Anyway, awesome use of instruments, great balance on the sounds, nothing feels too loud or too in the background, from what I've actually been able to spot that is, seeing as there's probably 20 layers I haven't heard yet. As always, great work, great song selection and definitely getting downlaoded and tossed into my VG music folder, keep it up.
Author's Response:
yup - thats one thing I am known for - layering! Gotta have as much going on in there as possible without making it cluttered :)
I also have 3 main melodies - all overlapped - there is the crystal - the trumpet, and the string :)
I also make all my stuff on headphones - I listen with speakers ater to make sure the eq is right and then do any additional mastering then to compensate for that - once it sounds good on both its ready to go!
I'll keep making stuff :)
thanks for the review!

"Glad to see somethign new,"
I started following you awhile back, haven't checked your site in some time. I was just having a debate in a chat room about how many musicians make music for fun at first, then make cash, and used you as an example. I went to your page to link them to your music and saw you had some new stuff, awesome.
I love how upbeat this song is. You managed to use distortion and keep a very clear track, people could learn from that. The main theme is a great mix of relaxation and rock, the synth sounds in there are awesome, especially what sounds like a warped out square synth during the main theme/solo portion. The guitar parts are fantastic as well.
This is definitely getting downloaded and tossed into my music. There is very little music that comes out these days that I like, I primarily listen to 70's-90's music and your stuff is the rare exception in which I find modern music I love. I'll be sure to check out your website again, I see you gave it a facelift so perhaps more new music comes with that. Keep it up, you rock.

I was highly surprised at how fast you got to reviewing this, first request I've ever had fulfilled by someone I didn't know.
The song itself is one of my favorite, if not my favorite from the golden sun series. I read that you haven't played the game, so that will explain a lot as far as you having the calm/mystic feel taken away a bit. The instrument choice overall is rather good, however as I and others have said, it doesn't meet the amazing mood the original set, although that's fine. You actually nailed the portion of the song that comes in at :49, I was waiting for it as I listened and was very happy to see you didn't mess that up, weather it be skills, or luck, or both, you got that part nearly perfect. The song as a whole is a bit more techno like than the original, but all the sounds are clear and work together, so it's fine. The synth string of sorts that comes in at :19 also sounds VERY much like the instrument used in the goldensun 2 intro music, that was a neat coincidence as well. Overall, it lacks mood compared to the amazingness of the original, but it's definitely a quality remix of a great song, perhaps the best of this song on newgrounds. The ending is a bit blah, but w/e, nothing audacity can't fix :)
On a side note, I really do highly suggest you play the game, it has some of the greatest music I've ever heard in games. You could probably do a phenomenal job remixing some of the other songs if you saw the atmosphere they take place in and used a better instrument palette to match that mode. Overall, great job and thanks for taking the request
Author's Response:
Thanks!!! I will play this game for sure!!!
It was really fun to take your request! Anytime again!!

It isn't exactly my style, but I respect it for what it is. It's an amazing song as well, from as many have said, an amazing game. I gave you the 9 because it's an awesome piece of work (even though by personal taste I would give it a 7.5), but I see the work put into it and it's done well. I wish you would have emphasized a few of the background parts a bit more, and a more dramatic entrance on parts would have given my ear what it wanted to hear, but it's still a great piece.
On a side note, to anyone reading,
Goldensun DS is officially in the works right now, it was announced at E3 this year by Nintendo, google it up. Release date is set for Early 2010 I believe.

I used this in Gravibounce as you can see on the left. It was front paged on here, newgrounds and various other sites as well. I created a loop as you'll notice, but that bit of the song did wonders to our game. It has the perfect feel I was looking for and the piano is crystal clear. I love how it's mysterious with a hint of hope in there, good stuff. Anyway, thanks again for letting us use it, perhaps we'll use more of your work int he sequel when the time comes.

Good stuff, I like how powerful it sounds, good use of strings. The percussion is great as well, perfectly fits in the background and doesn't overpower.
For anyone complaining about it not working as a loop, you need to learn a bit about flash and loops before you complain. First off, you would need to edit the loop regardless, you have to then export it as a WAV because flash will CREATE space in an mp3 file, so regardless you need to open up audacity or whatever to use this as a loop at all. It takes 2 minutes if that to edit this piece into a perfectly running loop from there.
Anyway, awesome piece, good job.

Love the panflute, Chronamut uses them a lot in his music, they have an amazing sound, my favorite sounding instrument I believe. They are in fact used a lot in the golden sun series sound track, so that's why the reviewer below recognized golden sun in there :)
Anyway, the track itself is great. It's very adventurous sounding. I like how it sounds a bit upbeat at times, and a bit like burden is taking over at others. The quality is perfect to my ears with these headphones and the song progresses well. Overall a great piece, I'm gonna download it and toss it on my Nintendo DS, keep up the good work.
Author's Response:
You think it's that good? Maybe this is one of my greatest pieces then..
Oh the flutes, okay. I was wondering how it would sound like something from that game.. Actually played the game for a few hours just to hear music from it :). But that was a while ago and I can't remember what it sounded like.
While I made this, I discovered that when you create something with feelings, it always turns up to be great.
